The One About Sketchnote Lesson Ideas

A quick list of lesson ideas! 

  1. Stop & Draw Moments- Wendy Pillars (after teaching new content allow your students to stop and draw what they think about that that new concept).
  2. Vocabulary Development (let them draw an icon or explanation for a new word(s)
  3. End of Unit/Chapter/Lesson Review
  4. Add on to Cornell Notes- revisit the notes and add doodles and connections to the infromation. 
  5. Rewrite notes, take Cornell or Outline style notes and then rewrite them as sketchnotes.
  6. Build Listening Comprehension by sketchnoting a podcast, or sketchnote a video without watching the video just listening to the audio. This can also be done while listening to a read aloud.
  7. Sketch a topic of your choice- build mini-research skills and add some personalization into the lesson.
  8. Sketchnote a video
  9. Sketch a mini lesson this works great for math workshop, writing workshop, reading workshop.
  10. Sketch a math story problem
  11. Sketchnote lab instructions
  12. Sketchnote lab observation
  13. Sketchnote concepts (like weather cycle etc.)
  14. Timelines, literally any timeline. See example of the history of jello below.
  15. Project Planning- Manuel Herrera
  16. Annotations to articles read in class
  17. Visual Mapping
  18. Group Sketchnotes- Carrie Baughcum @heckawesome 
  19. #sketchipes (Sketchnote recipes- direction writing) See Lentil Curry and Red Pepper Panzanella examples below
  20. Biography Sketch - mini research about a person and draw about their life.

Writing a blog a day is not that hard. If you ask me, as long as you write a single paragraph a day, then that is good. You do not have to make this your full-time job, in fact, it is okay if you do not even pay too much attention to it. It is just your hobby, and I understand that you have a lot of things that you need to think about. How you make it interesting, though.
