Friendship is an essential part of life, and nurturing these relationships is crucial, especially during the teenage years. A great way to strengthen these bonds is by starting a friendship journal. This is a special journal that friends can pass back and forth to write down their thoughts, memories, and feelings.

Why Friendship Journaling is Important

As educators, we understand the importance of positive relationships in a student's life. A friendship journal provides a safe space for teenagers to share their thoughts and feelings with their closest friends. Journaling also promotes emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and self-reflection. Additionally, friendship journaling encourages empathy and compassion towards others, as students learn to actively listen to their friends and validate their experiences.

Incorporating Friendship Journaling in the Classroom

Friendship journaling can be incorporated in the classroom setting in various ways. Teachers can assign students to create their own friendship journals and encourage them to pass them back and forth during the school day. Alternatively, teachers can use friendship journaling as a tool to promote social and emotional learning by providing prompts related to friendship, empathy, and kindness. This activity can be done as a whole class or in small groups, encouraging students to actively listen to their peers and foster a sense of community.
